Real tree for Camborne this Christmas
Camborne town’s real Christmas tree tradition has returned after months of hard work by the directors of Camborne’s Business Improvement District (BID) board.
Apollo Bingo Camborne stepped in and sponsored the 25-foot Nordman spruce that will ensure a fitting arboreal centrepiece for the festive season.
“We’re delighted to be sponsoring this year’s real Christmas tree,” said Mark Durrance, General Manager of Camborne’s Apollo Bingo and a director of BID Camborne.
“As a business we’re passionate about our involvement with local communities and giving something back. Camborne is very special to me and my colleagues and I’m personally very proud that funding from Apollo Bingo has enabled a real tree to be the focus for this year’s festivities.”
Selected at the farm where it’s been growing, the tree was installed in Commercial Square and lit on 24th November. Camborne-based Combined Tree Services (CTS) volunteered to put it up and eventually remove it free of charge.
Surrounding the tree are panels decorated by pupils from nearby St John’s, Rosemellion, Roskear, and Weeth schools, St Meriadoc Infant School and Trevithick Learning Academy. The theme is the twelve days of Christmas and the children have been working with local artist Tony Minnion in a series of workshops to create their designs. They have also been making flags to wave during the lights switch-on procession.
BID Camborne works on behalf of local businesses who fund Christmas in Camborne. Chair Sharron Lipscombe-Manley said “We listened to our locals and are really excited to have been able to get a real tree that everyone can feel proud of. Our 2018 tree is going to be spectacular and we’re hoping that everyone will be encouraged to enter into the Christmas spirit and enjoy what the town has to offer.”
